WestJet celebrated its inaugural flight to Las Vegas from Kelowna International Airport (YLW) today, marking the return of a popular destination for Okanagan travellers. The flight departed at 8:45 a.m. with passengers eager to enjoy the entertainment capital of the world.
"We are very excited to continue to see the commitment WestJet has made to our region," said Sam Samaddar, YLW Chief Executive Officer. "Las Vegas is a highly sought-after destination for our passengers, and we are thrilled that WestJet is meeting this demand with their new twice-weekly flights.”
WestJet will operate flights to Las Vegas on Mondays and Fridays, offering more than 3,000 seats per month.
WestJet has been a valued community partner serving Kelowna for 27 years. Since then, WestJet has grown to become the primary carrier at YLW, with 55% of total seat capacity. WestJet continues to prove their commitment to the community by adding direct flights to key markets such as Las Vegas.
“We are thrilled to further our commitment to Kelowna with the return of popular service to Vegas,” said Riccardo Simonelli, Director of Canadian Airports at WestJet. “We know that this route will play a key role in stimulating leisure and business demand as we continue to provide our guests with even more affordable and accessible opportunities to escape the cold and find the sun this winter.”
Las Vegas is the latest addition to WestJet Group's growing network from YLW, which for this winter also includes Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, Phoenix, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cancun.
The YLW terminal came to life throughout the day with magic, acrobatics and prizes such as $100 gift cards for WestJet and one lucky local family that won a trip for two to Las Vegas courtesy of WestJet.
